About estimated prices
What your list might cost, from public averages.
Canadian prices to August 2026 · US prices to August 2026
In short: once you set where you shop, Shop can show an estimated price on each line it can price and a total for the week. These are estimates from public average prices for your area, not prices from your store. Your store, brands and sales will differ. Prices come from public tables, never from AI, and they are free on every plan.
Where they show
Prices show only after you choose where you shop in Profile, under Where you shop: your country, then your province, territory or state. Eggsercise never guesses it. If Profile does not show Where you shop yet, it comes with an app update. Prices cover Canada and the US; anywhere else reads “Prices aren’t available where you shop yet.”
A line reads like “Est. $6.40 · Ontario avg · Aug 2026”, and the total says how many lines have a price (“Est. $142 · 34 of 41 items priced”). Pantry staples you check before buying are left out, and taxes and deposits are not included. On a shared list, each person sees prices for their own area.
How a line is priced
- Each food is matched to a published price in reviewed data, never by a model. A few are priced from a close stand-in, such as Greek yogurt from plain yogurt, and herbs and spices are never priced.
- The amount priced is what the list asks you to buy: whole packages, counted items or the rounded weight.
- In Canada the average is your province’s, Whitehorse’s for Yukon or Yellowknife’s for the Northwest Territories; in the US it is your Census region’s (Northeast, Midwest, South or West). Where your area has no price from the last 6 months, a recent national average is used instead, and a food with no price from the last 12 months shows none.
- Prices older than 6 months are marked “older prices”; after 12 months they are hidden. We load newer months about once a month, after the agencies publish them.
Your area stays yours
Eggsercise stores the country and province or state you choose only to show prices for your area, and shares it with no one. Showing prices sends nothing about you to the agencies below: their tables are kept in our own database. See the privacy policy.
